Preheating the oven takes time and a little bit of guessing of how much wood to use. For whatever reason I'm always struggling with it. This is my first attempt to keep track of how long it takes to heat the oven and to what temperature it goes.
Usually the oven has a temperature of around 100 Celsius as a starting point.
Fill the oven with wood, nice long pieces (if you have). Normally I put one smaller block of wood across in the oven and add the longer wood lengthwise on top of it, creating a bit of air underneath the wood. Crumbled up newspaper on top and some small, easy to light starter wood. Open the door vent just a little bit and the chimney damper, light the newspaper and wait.
After the wood has turned to small coals, push them through the shute into the main firechamber. Close the oven window vent.
Once in the firechamber, put the vents into the coalburning stage and wait until it's all done.
Close the chimney.
