An easy way to keep track of which firewood to use

In the garden I have several places where I store firewood and when a place is empty, I fill it up with freshly chopped wood for next season.
As you can imagine it is quite tricky to keep track of "old" and "new" wood.

I created a really simple system to do this.

Take some scrap wood and mark each site with either a Letter or a Number. So there is one (small) board with an "A" on one site and a "1" on the other. Another board with a "B" on one site, and a "2" on the other and so on. How many do you need? As many as you have storage locations.

Per season you're either burning wood from Letter- or from Number-locations. When "A" is empty you get wood from "B". Is "B" empty, move on to "C" and so on. Always choose wood from the "lowest" location. Lowest numerically or alphabetically.

When the storage location is filled up with wood you place the board on it with the Letter shown.

Storage Location B

When this storage location has been emptied, turn the board the other way around. The Number is now facing outward.

The next season you start with getting wood from Number locations. Start with Number 1, followed by 2 and so on.

Is location 1 empty, fill the board to "A" and fill it up with freshly chopped wood.

This is the first year that I'm using this system and so far, it works out like I hoped. Hope it can help you to.
